Checking the rower

Before any pros who come across my website insults my poor technique, i admit i am a beginner in rowing. The poor posture might be something that is personal, because i have a bit of hunchback when i was younger and even though nowadays i stand up straight, my backbone is already curved. I do find it impossible to keep my back entirely straight over here because of that fact.

The cool graphical representation at the rowing stage of the race. I’m with the econs team and this is almost one-third into the race.

During the race. Poor technique here =P

The econs people.

And Mrs Chongky.

Nostalgia

Mrs Chongky had a bad headache and after checking through the list of GP on the SMU insurance, we head out to AMK. The clinic was at the block that was across the street from my previous AMK apartment. Not many of the shops from my primary and secondary school days remained. Sadly. I visited the fruit stall which i remembered where my mummy bought me agar agar on several occassions on our way back from the bus stop along Ave 3. I bought the same agar agar - the most colourful one.

We went to the revamped market and found the obscure chicken rice stall back from those days, where the serving portion is large and price never increases with the rest. Today, it’s no longer the same small stall. Business was damn good that the queue was usual at 3pm. I had to queue up at the only queue in the hawker centre to eat the chicken rice that i ate all so often previously. The not so oily rice and the fatty chicken.

Then we visited the bread shop that i had ate from on most of the occassions that i am given bread by mummy or daddy. Everything remains the same, but the prices have increased. The same soft white bread loaf is still available, the same giant french loaf that my mummy is always particular about choosing the ones that just came out from the kitchen.

We took the same old feeder bus to the central, and retracked the routes that i always walked, when my world revolves around AMK central.

Those were the days, that i miss. I wish we have never moved out of AMK in the first place.

Minds Cafe: Second consecutive weekend

After our visit to the Minds Cafe last friday, the gang decided that it wasn’t enough and we battle it out on “Who’s the Boss” and “Monopoly” once again.

Pretty screwed up business model actually. The reservation wasn’t relayed accordingly because the call centre is at another branch, and despite it remaining opened, the person at the counter declined to check giving various reasons, like the centre is closed and there is no way he could check. On one hand, it is good for him to apologise immediately and offered a solution. But customers’ time is not elastic after all. If we are assured of a place then we SHOULD get the place, isn’t it? The avoidance to check with call centre forced me to throw him “do you want me to check myself”.

The follow up was excellent. We were offered complimentary munchies and popcorn, though they are cheap and overpriced stuff, at least there is some form of goodwill gesture here. I would rather they give one round of drinks instead, frankly.

Anyway, the whole experience is good, though i am uncertain that i want to go back to the same branch again. Boat Quay might be a better idea, considering that the call centre is there and anything goes wrong someone is going to sink. Right there.

The demand for good service is also high, especially when business establishments are charging me 10% for the service. Of course i intend to see that my services being worthy of the 10%. Magic Wok does not charge for services, and hence i don’t demand any sort of good service, though that would be a bonus, if it happens one day.

Alrighty i think i am getting very tired. The supper at Geyland is really jia lut. Dim sum at this kind of hour is certainly going to make me super fat. Going to bath soon and sleep… more work tomorrow awaits.
