I’m sick too. Cough and flu. All that is getting to my brain.
In any case, i have survived 2.5 lesson today. Because i woke up late, i missed half a lesson of sitting-in, and thus my wednesday is somewhere shorter today.
And if you have been mugging / working all these while, perhaps it’s time to take a short break and head down to Chinatown or Taka to feel the Chinese New Year mood. Jordan, Mrs Chongky and i went Chinatown last friday, and the two of them had their fill of CNY soft candy sample there was given out freely by the hawkers. The crowd is definitely filling up the place, though it hasn’t been very crowded yet. While we were there, we saw Fiona Xia, Joanna Peh and this other guy there filming some CNY show i believe.
Last saturday Mrs Chongky and i checked out Taka. The event hall at B2 is now filled with CNY stalls too. If you are a lover of lao po bing / egg tart / Hong Kong pastries, head down there now. You can find the famous 恒香 from Yuen Long there right now.

Just to tempt all of you.
I am a lover of Hong Kong pastries and had been eating quite a lot of the local Tong Heng’s previously. But when i see the Heng Xiang stall at Taka, i jumped at this opportunity and spent 20 over dollars.
Yup in any case, if you don’t want to fly to HK, i reckon now is the best time to buy all you want from the stall in Taka. I heard they only set up for the stall for the CNY period.
hi, do u have any idea where to get Heng xiang’s lao po bing or any other brands tat is comparable to HK ones. Im afraid the stalls have already closed down in Taka, any idea if they have fixed shops in singapore?
Hi sunshine,
I’m afraid that Heng Xiang does not has a fixed shop in Singapore. The last time they came over to Singapore a few years back they did the same approach of setting up a stall at Great World City or somewhere.
I should think that by now the stalls at Taka for CNY are already closed. One alternative brand that i patronise is at Tong Heng. The egg tarts are nice too, and lao po bing if i remember correctly they have it too. But i haven’t try that though. Given it’s strong following (or at least i think they have it), it should be good as well. Give it a try? They have a branch at Chinatown, opposite Smith Street, at the row of shophouse facing the Indian Temple. It shouldn’t be hard to find. =)
Cheers,
Chongky
