Next Wave Review

The Next Wave 2006 was excellent.

Usually i attend performances/concerts just for entertainment value. I hardly would try to look beyond that and consider the artistic value. But this time it’s different. I am writing on the performance as part of my Dance: East and West module. Thus i was kept in thinking mode throughout the 2.5 hours show.

The first item was refreshing. Imagine techno and contemp moves. Cantoonish. But in terms of dance exploration i would say this is an excellent piece.

Second item was lyrical jazz. It was pretty good i would say. Technical wise.

Zaki’s item was the one that got the energy going. Hip hop that is carefully balanced with modern and classical moves. Tasty Tasteful i mean.

Bryan’s choreography is very him. Jazz. From lyrical to club to classical to boardway. Basically all genre of jazz, except latin jazz which i had attended twice.

Don Wong (not sure if i got the name right, passed my programme to Jess so can’t verify) choreography infused with classical chinese dance and martial art came as a surprise. A real visual treat. There was a lady with long dress dancing high up in the air with rice pouring over her. Depiction of Goddess in chinese mythical i presume. What truly surprised me was the sudden lowering of sash from above to the dancers. It caught me speechless.

Watching this item is an organismic experience by itself.

Zaini’s choreography with ex-NUS dancers (i presume, since the last time i watch one similar item with similar costume it was by a group of ex-NUS dancers) is so him.

Probably one of the best dance performance i have watched this year. Don’t worry i won’t be writing stuff i have written here into my report. Of course i have prepared a more in-depth and detailed account of my experience watching it.

It made me want to dance. Jazz / contemp wise.

Projection on the Remaining Week

A bit tired now. I think i need to sleep badly.

Next few days are packed. Instructor course. NUS The Next Wave (watching partly for dance, partly for Dance: East & West mid term project). Rehearsals throughout the weekends.

Plus…

Haven’t study for finance quiz on tue. Haven’t finish game theory assignment for mon morning. Haven’t finish CAT assignment for mon afternoon.

Haven’t got a clue what is going on in Macroecons class since week 1…

Haha…

I guess i better get going. Keep my promise to friends first then work after that.

I’m gonna be so dead.

Swissotel Vertical Marathon

2 years ago, i went for my first Swissotel Vertical Marathon.

I only took 11 min 12 sec to finish.

I was once slim and fit just like any other runner.

Eh that’s 1336 steps up 73 storey ok all in 11 min 12 sec.

In that year i was placed 50 out of 200+ participants in the Men’s Open.

In 2005, if i had taken part again, that timing would place me in top 15 in Men’s 20-29 Age Group.

In 2006, I shall give it a try again. Even though it might potentially kill my interest in running in the future.

Busy semester this time. Climbing. Course. 6 modules. Dance. Work. Run.

Sleepy class

I am damn sleepy now. Best time of the year to have lecture. The best prof of all times.

Don’t ask me if i’m trying to sleep in class.

No man I’m trying to stay awake.

Busy weekends

Hey guys, don’t worry i’m not dead. Just too busy over the weekends to think of what to write. And this coming weekends are burnt as well.

Will do a nice update soon ya.

Cheers.

Sick and sleepy

I am officially sick and sleepy. Ya i know it’s finally friday, and i just made it through the India dance experiment for Dance: East and West. Woke up kinda too early today for Yang’s flight to his exchange university.

I thought i just found my equilibrium for this sem. Study v hard and gym everyday in the morning. Then i just found out that this arrangement doesn’t make everyone happy.

I just wish for more time with her, more time to study together, more time to exercise.

I is depressed now.

Macroecons is gone case

Totally gone for macroecons. I wish i didn’t have to do this course. Damn difficult, and it doesn’t help that i just bought my textbook, more than 2 wks into the term. Not that i chose to delay buying the text because it’s expensive, but because the dumb booklink here is out of stock.

Shit man… i just visualised myself mugging (not in the robbing context) for macroecons and won’t understand anything.

Gan cheong Chongky…

Sleeping time

Just woke up from 1 hour sleep in the library. Damn, the new stools in the level 2 allows people to practically lie down and fall into deep sleep without knowing whether they are snoring loudly.

And i woke up feeling more sick than i had felt before i slept.

Stingray kills

The news about death of Steve Irwin’s death isn’t “fresh” anymore.

But here is more information about how stingrays kill.

SMU-Teva Inter-CCA DragonBoat Race 2006

SMU Climb Team is the champion in the SMU-Teva Inter-CCA DragonBoat Race 2006.

I seriously think i need to tone up and lose some weight.
