Do not Mess with Chongky

Messing around with Chongky is the last thing you should do.

Regent KL screwed up the amount blocked on Mrs Chongky’s credit card the last time we visit the city and no one provided me a satisfactory answer after repeated calls and emails.

Result:

After i power everyone who pisses me off, i have a personal call from the Executive Assistant Manager of the hotel and an email to reiternate the message.

Please accept my apologies once again for any inconvenience that may have been caused following the incorrect amount of pre-authorisation being reserved on your credit card.It is disappointing to learn of this incorrect processing and even more disappointing to hear of the frustrations that you encountered whilst trying to resolve this issue with certain members of our team.

I can assure you that this matter has not been taken lightly and we have dealt with each of the personnel that you have mentioned according to our policies here.  I would not expect a repeat occurrence.

I do believe that you may be returning to Kuala Lumpur in the near future. As such, it would be my pleasure to pamper you during your next stay with us by providing you with a complimentary upgrade to one of our Executive Suites and also offering a 1 hour couple’s massage in our Health Club or in the privacy of your room.

Please contact me directly to make your next reservation so that I may personally attend to your requirements and ensure your complete enjoyment and relaxation during your visit.

I would like to again apologies for the difficulties that you experienced here and I do hope that we will be able to meet in person during your next visit to Malaysia.

How can we refuse such an offer? The service is good generally. Such screw ups don’t happen often after all.

And the suite sounds real tempting.

Deluxe Room
40 sq. m., well-appointed open view concept rooms with wall to wall windows. Large spacious bathroom with separate shower cubicle and long bath.

Executive Suite
80 sq. m., Executive Suites feature a spacious bedroom, a separate living room, a large marble bathroom, and a powder room. Wall to wall windows offer stunning views of Kuala Lumpur’s striking skyline. Guests will have a butler to attend to their needs, special room and bathroom amenities, 2 bottles of mineral water and guaranteed higher floor room.

Ngee Ann Canoe Club just pissed me off with their organisation of Relay Duathlon. The format is compete in teams of two. On their poster, the entry fees is written as “Mixed - $15″. Of course anyone would take it as $15 for one team. But today, when i wanted to pay when i register for my event, the person told me it’s $18 for each person (after increase of $3 for registration which i was informed but again not told it’s per person).

Wake up your idea lah! I was so pissed off that i sarcastically said it’s ok we can don’t run.

BUT NO ONE PISSES ME OFF AND GET AGAIN WITH IT!

Camp5

If you happen to be in Selangor and in need of climbing fix, you can consider going 1 Utama Shopping Centre. It’s damn big, even bigger than Mid Valley. It’s so huge that it can host two big supermarkets. Inside it hosts a tropical rainforest (not the real one you dumbass).

Look at the top of the shopping centre… there’s a logo of 5.

That’s the logo for Camp5!!!

Camp5 claims to be the largest indoor climbing gym in Asia. I was skeptical at first, but after i went in i am fucking impressed. Mrs Chongky and i behaved like kids in a mega candy store. Camp5 itself is good enough reason for Mrs Chongky and i to migrate to KL.

This leading wall on the 2nd storey is already higher at 15m than the one in school.

And the place is still going through expansion. The wall with a lot of empty holes is a new face that is yet to be completed. There is plan for multi-pitch wall too, which i didn’t manage to identify.

We could be leading and climbing and bouldering, but the rental for rope at 20rm per hour (runners are bolted to the wall) saves us that trouble of doing all 3 and we devote our energy to climbing and bouldering only.

Climbing wall on the second storey at around 8m, but the routes are sure challenging. And seeing tiles on every single surface sure make us go into orgasm the whole day. Mrs Chongky is especially excited, because she only likes climbing in air-conditioned place.

The wall on the left side actually runs from first storey of Camp5, so it’s probably 15metres. There are two set of belaying machines, so it sorta makes climbing more accessible to everyone because people can come without a belaying slave. The tiles are big and good for speed climbing on that wall, but the height makes the climb not any easier. Plus i’m naturally not good at climbing. =(

What makes CHONGKY goes crazy is the artifical (i think) natural rock which neither of us can climb.

Don’t be deceived by the harmless appearance. We imagined it to be easy till we try to climb up a little. Damn, shall conquere it next time.

I’m most happy with the bouldering wall actually. It’s damn comprehensive. Overhangs, flat wall, roof. All stretches across just like this face of the bouldering section here.

The wall is probably around 5 metres tall, and you can actually climb up to the second floor from here. The best view should come from here, because this part of the wall faces only glass panels, which allows view all the way to don’t-know-where of Malaysia.

A stand-alone bouldering wall.

Well this is definitely not cuter than the elephant-shaped bouldering wall near the reception. It’s something for kids actually, with very cute tiles. And adults can play in it too!

After climbing we were so hungry and messy that our hotel ended up the same way we were.

Muahaha…

Out of 3 days in KL, we went Camp5 on two days. Now that we are back in Singapore, we miss Camp5.

So much so that we made the elephant bouldering wall last night.

Blog Stats

It amuses me whenever i log into my wordpress account and look at the stats page. These days i see something like this:

Yesterday

Search Views
dean potter el cap 2
ringtone of girl in my sassy girl 1
my sassy girl canon in d 1
canon my sassy girl 1
singapore topless hunk 1

This shows the terms people use in the search engine to come across my blog. Man… i can imagine the disappointment. U search for “smu hottest freshie”, my blog comes up, u click and viola.

No mention of the hottest freshie in town.

Or try “singapore topless hunk” instead and my post on singapore hunk written back during this year’s Singapore Sevens appear and VIOLA!

No pic of that topless hunk with the least nice body (subjective opinion) out of all the hunks featured.

Nevermind. I shall qualify myself as hunk and pose my own photo instead.

Disappointing Climb Asia

Just shitted. All i had to eat today are 2 ham sandwiches and 1 apple. Not that i am not hungry. I am. So that’s why i just munched 2 fun pack of peanut M&Ms. Haha…

The other interns were shocked by the M&Ms. Knowing how keen i am to shed some fats, and M&Ms isn’t the most healthy snack around, i can’t fault them for being surprised.

6 more working days to the end of internship. Excluding today. HR dept just backpaid what they have screwed up from last mth’s pay. I have handed over some jobs to a contract staff. I have some jobs on my hand but i am not exactly in the most motivated mood.

Mrs Chongky is finishing her internship tomorrow. Climbing training on tues has been shifted to afternoon. How i wish i can finish my internship this week too. Logically i could, since i have completed my 10 weeks of internship. But all my life i have been trying to be responsible. Not that i am irresponsible, but i always make sure my actions or decisions are deem to be responsible at least by myself.

That’s why i don’t push my job to the contract staff. That’s why i make sure i finish my 11 weeks of internship as agreed when i came for the interview.

Popped by Climb Asia yesterday. Because it is a public holiday and we have the urge to climb and we missed climbing on tues. We went shopping in the earlier part of the day, so by the time we are ready to climb only Climb Asia remains operational on the public holiday.

I had the impression that it should be a nice place to climb in, especially after hearing it being mentioned on and there online. However i was proved mistaken when i get my ass down to Rangoon road. It is just a small shophouse and there is only space for two person to climb at the same time on the top rope wall. The rest of the wall is taken up by boundering wall, even though the space is not big to begin with.

Both storeys were clogged with climbers seated on the mattress. The sweat smell lingered in the air, as if it has never dissipated since the establishment started business. All these despite the entire place isn’t air-conditioned.

We stood at the door and Mrs Chongky wanted to leave. I decided that since we are there might as well take a good look. I’m glad i did. I have decided the place isn’t fit for business. I won’t even want to climb there, neither will i encourage people to go either. There are better places else where, even if it means being exposed to the element.

At least no funky smell lingers.

Mrs Chongky misses Camp5. Me too. How i wish i am actually rich. So i can convert an entire shopping mall into climbing gym. Muahaha…

Click

Watching Click makes me reflect on myself, and i realised i am just as guilty as Micheal Newman. When work and family crashes, i choose work over family. Even though it might just be an internship or service to the nation. I only manage time for family once in a while, and i never let my folks know how much i love them.

Despite of all the difference in opinion and quarrels.

Go catch Click. It’s not as bad as i thought frankly.

On Singapore Hunks

The wonderful things about wordpress is that it allows you to look at the stats of visits to your blog without you even having to paste any special code from some special website in your template. Which is of course a good thing. You see, i used to do all these and the stats isn’t any more detail than that provided in wordpress.

And i realised these days, i have several reads and searches regarding “singapore hunks”.

After reading a few blogs with authors who ain’t obviously straight, i have an impression that these people who search for singapore hunks ain’t too straight either. Haha… hey before you decided to label me as sexist / biased etc, i must declare i have nothing against homosexuals.

I mean come on, today isn’t those days in lower sec where your teacher would declare she would “turn you into homosexual” when you misbehave and the whole class would burst into uncontrolled laughter.

*Can someone tell me what’s her name again? Mdm Lim or something isn’t it? Geo teacher?*

So chill guys. Read and give me some comments.

And happy national day.

Satay alert! (and more races to come)

Went T2 for lunch today. I won’t want to go there. Firstly it’s out of the way, and secondly, it’s out of the way.

It’s entirely the other interns’ idea.

Anyway there’s Rex Satay at the staff foodcourt. Makan lost and found i think. Pretty ok, slightly different from usual charred satay. I’m not too sure if it’s a good or bad thing, but i still find Sembawang satay club satay more tasty. The only complaint i have is it’s damn charred.

Suspect i ate too much today.

Back to ZMN life, Mrs Chongky and i are going for races next month. Shortlisted a few and hopefully can make two of them. Will update after completing them.

Darn the freshies

While in school, i overheard this freshie talking to another freshie.

Freshie #1: “Who are these people?”

Freshie #2: “The climbers lor”

Freshie #1: “They don’t look like they’re from SMU.”

Eh wake up your bloody idea can. No one told you if you want to talk bad about people, don’t do it in front of them. KNN. Some more it’s so loud i can hear it as i run (not even near them). So what is the SMU look? Are we supposed to wear polo tee / tee shirt / spag top and jeans and sneakers and leap into the air? Or are we supposed to wear that same set of clothes give a i-am-the-star pose but this time take a photo from 45 degree above us?

Strangely, before i even met the year 1s proper i already don’t like them.

Famous Climber: Dean Potter

On monday morning (read 12.30am), Mrs Chongky and i watched A1 (A1 is my favourite channel, not exactly Mrs Chongky’s because of all the misfortune adventures they chose to boardcast during OUR dinner hours). Suddenly we got excited because of this climbing programme that is coming up next. The programme featured Dean Potter and his thoughts while doing the impossible climb in a day.

According to Wikipedia, Dean Potter is “American climber, innovated new fast and free climbing style; speed soloed El Cap in 4 hours, 17 minutes; speed soloed El Cap and Half Dome in one day.” Yup, and the programme featured that speed solo in 2001.

I admire his climbing philosophy, being in touch with nature and all. Beliving in adequate practise and sharing his method to prepare himself for big climbs and building up his mental strength. We learnt a lot about big wall climbing within that one hour we spent in front of the tv.

My respect for this famous climber grew as i watch on. And now i don’t know if i had lost all my respect for him.

Ever heard of the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park in Utah? It’s a famous structure, and of course it is meant to be conserved and Park authority has advised climbers against climbing on it.

Just in May, Dean Potter climbed the Delicate Arch, filmed and photographed the process.  Apparently he has sufficient time to set up the cameras and rehearse the solo climb with safety. As much as he claimed to have done a clean solo free climb, with even a video to the journalists to demostrate that fact, the truth is it isn’t that clean after all.

Various reports are available online and all suggested that the Arch has been damaged.

Read more here, this is the most comprehensive report about the incident and damage to the sandstone that i have found.

http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200606/dean-potter-delicate-arch-climb-1.html

I aspire to be a big wall climber, but seems like it’s a complicated world after all.
