Perhaps i’m also the same kind of pragmatic person. Vera Wang and 5 star hotels are so meaningless. Maybe it is to the richer you, but to me, it doesn’t.
My mother never had her honeymoon (i think). And (i think) it bothers her. That’s why she always tell me (die-die) must hold my wedding dinner at a cheap place and best if don’t hold it at all.
Then use all that money for honeymoon.

I think that’s smart. What’s the point of making everything grand at a big ballroom with flowers all around? At the end of the day people will only remember the event as Chongky’s wedding at XXX hotel and nothing more because they have attended so many weddings. If the service is poor, CONGRATS! Now it’s Chongky’s wedding at XXX hotel with LOUSY SERVICE.

Why bother spending so much money at Shangri-la Rasa Sentosa to make things special? People will only remember the TROUBLESOME journey there, the NOT-SO-COOL aircon, and ICED-DOWN SOFTDRINKS or ROOM TEMPERATURE red wine. Perhaps, only perhaps, they will also remember the video of vow exchange by the sea side in the sea breeze and the MESSY HAIR of the bridge and groom.
I can still remember the details of weddings i was invited to, because i had only attended 4. But i am sure as i go to more wedding, it’s gonna be like remembering what you ate for Kopitiam everyday. Basically nothing much except than what’s nice and what’s not nice. Not what the mee pok auntie wore last friday or the hairstyle of the chee koh chicken rice man.
Don’t stare at me. I admit readily that i am poor. I might not want to hold a wedding dinner, or i might hold it in M’sia, or i might just have it under the void deck (ok maybe this option no), or i might just have the ceremony at Chijmes with receptions.
But don’t expect me to fork out money for Vera Wang or 5 class hotel.
Even though i still expect you guys to send me the big fat ang pao in any chance.
